A matriarch, Prof Kamene Okonjo, mom of the Director General of World Trade Organisation, (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has handed on.
Also, the mom of the normal ruler of Ogwashi Uku kingdom, Obi (Dr) Ifechukwude Anishi Okonjo 11 and matriarch of Umu Obi Obahai Royal household of the kingdom, died on Friday aged 96 years.
She was the spouse of the late His Royal Majesty, Obi (Professor) Chukwuka Okonjo, the rapid previous Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, with whom she shared 66 outstanding years of marriage.
An announcement issued by Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, Palace Secretary of the dominion on behalf the royal household on Sunday, described the late queen mom as a unprecedented girl whose outstanding life was outlined by mental brilliance, humility, compassion, dignity and an unwavering dedication to the development of humanity.
The assertion stated: “An internationally recognised and foremost sociologist, Professor Kamene Okonjo distinguished herself by her excellent educational accomplishments, mental contributions and lifelong advocacy for ladies’s rights and empowerment.
“She was a girl of outstanding mind, but possessed a uncommon gentleness of spirit, humility and beauty that endeared her to everybody privileged to know her.
“Her achievements transcended the boundaries of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom and Nigeria, incomes her admiration and respect inside educational and mental circles internationally.
“She represented the very most interesting qualities of scholarship, womanhood, motherhood and repair to society.
“Beyond her appreciable skilled accomplishments, she was a faithful mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and a cherished pillar of the Royal Family. Her knowledge, kindness, quiet power and exemplary character will stay an everlasting inspiration to generations but unborn.
“While we mourn her passing, we have fun a life exceptionally properly lived.
“At 96 years, Professor Kamene Okonjo leaves behind a unprecedented legacy of scholarship, service, household values and advocacy for the dignity and development of ladies.
“We take consolation in our Christian religion and the reassurance that she is resting peacefully with the Lord, having accomplished her earthly journey with grace and distinction.
“The entire Umu Obi Obahai Royal Family extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to His Royal Majesty, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, and to all her beloved children, including Princess Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Dr Njideka Okonjo-Udochi, Prince Onyema Okonjo, Prince Chichi Okonjo as well as their spouses, sons and daughters in law, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the entire extended Okonjo Royal Family.”
