The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has rejected the N70,000 allowance provided by the Federal Government and demanded a N300,000 salary.
This is contained in an announcement by the President of the TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, and the Secretary-General of the union, Comrade N. A. Toro, on Wednesday.
This was in response to the brand new allowance bundle of the Federal Government for employees.
The union stated that the N70,000 allowance is just not practical and can’t maintain the current financial hardship being confronted by Nigerian employees.
It added that with the rising value of dwelling, excessive inflation and the elimination of gas subsidy, N70,000 is grossly insufficient.
The TUC, subsequently, demanded N300,000 as a extra practical salary that may cushion the results of the financial hardship on employees.
It, subsequently, issued a stern warning that it might not settle for something lower than N300,000, saying Nigerian employees deserve a greater deal.
The TUC stated that the federal government’s failure to maintain its guarantees has weakened confidence in agreements reached between labour unions and authorities.
“TUC then calls on governments in any respect ranges to implement measurable interventions to scale back the price of important items and companies, guarantee well timed fee of salaries and pensions, shield present jobs, curb exploitative labour practices and revitalize the productive sector to create respectable employment,” it stated.
The Federal Government has not reacted to the union’s demand as of the time of submitting this report.
