The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Abia State chapter, has urged the Abia State authorities to intensify efforts in bettering the welfare of medical docs within the state.
The NMA made the decision on Tuesday in Umuahia through the opening ceremony of Physicians’ Week 2026.
The Chairman of the NMA in Abia, Dr. Daniel Ekeleme, who delivered the attraction in his opening remarks, mentioned that funding in docs and healthcare amenities in Abia will safe the way forward for the residents.
Ekeleme, who mentioned that the way forward for docs should stay a precedence, famous that their providers are indispensable to an efficient healthcare system.
While appreciating the steps being taken by the Abia State authorities to strengthen healthcare supply within the state, the NMA mentioned that improved welfare is required to forestall docs within the state from migrating to different states or touring to international lands seeking higher jobs.
“The welfare of docs should stay a precedence. Doctors are indispensable to efficient healthcare and their dedication should be matched with applicable renumeration, well timed cost of entitlements, improved working situations, satisfactory staffing, and entry to important instruments for efficient service supply,” Ekeleme mentioned.
The Abia NMA chairman mentioned the theme of 2026 Physicians Week, ‘Securing the way forward for medication in Nigeria, Saving the Savers’, highlighted the challenges some docs face within the nation, together with those that hunch and die on responsibility.
